মহাপরিচালকের বার্তা

The main responsibility of The Directorate of Primary Education is to provide primary education to around 19 million school age children of the country. Since Primary education is the foundation and the first step on the education ladder it deserves and obtains serious attention from government. Good quality primary education builds a strong foundation to ensure a better future for all our children.  Through the efforts of our children Bangladesh will move towards its vision of acquiring the status of a middle income country in 20 years.

A number of initiatives are being taken to consolidate the progress we have made in enrolling most children in primary school. For instance in 2014, the main theme of the Primary Education Week was “Education is the origin of life, dropping out is the blunder”. Enrolment and regular attendance at school are encouraged through stipends and school feeding for the poorest. School environments are being improved physically and learning made “joyful”.  But, now and for the foreseeable future, the quality of our primary education will be the focus of attention. The curriculum is at the heart of education. It is being revised as are all the textbooks: training for teachers is being reformed; pre-primary education introduced so that all children make a sure start to schooling: planning and management is being decentralized.

“Doing things better” and Doing better things” are twin themes that guide the development of the current primary education system.   Ensuring the quality of teaching-learning process is a main focus for the DPE. Another is ensuring community participation in the management of primary schools. NGOs have a role as partners since they offer a variety of approaches to providing primary education – though they mostly use the same curriculum and textbooks as government schools. We are now emphasizing inclusive education so that children who suffer from various forms of disadvantage, children who live in remote corners, children whose mother tongue is not Bangla have access to quality primary education

Finally, We hope that the continuation of development in the education sector will help to implement the ‘Vision-2021’, paving the way of building a poverty and hunger-free Bangladesh.
